First United Methodist Church of Bryant
Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ who love God and love neighbor by worshiping, growing, witnessing, giving and serving.
BRYANT FUMC is part of a global connection called The United Methodist Church.
We are governed by The General Conference of the United Methodist Church which meets for two weeks every four years. The next session of the General Conference will be held in 2012. Each session issues a Book of Discipline which contains definitive rules and standards for the belief and conduct of churches. In matters requiring special interpretation of our Constitution, rules or standards, we have an elected Judicial Council which convenes and offers rulings much like a Supreme Court.
Our principal governing authority is the Arkansas Annual Conference which convenes annually under the leadership of Bishop Charles N. Crutchfield. While operating within the guidelines and directives prescribed by the Book of Discipline, the Annual Conference provides state-wide organization and leadership to the 725 churches in Arkansas. Bishop Crutchfield with the assistance and counsel of nine District Superintendants appoints pastors to serve the churches.
Rev. Chester Jones is Superintendent of the South Central District of the Arkansas Conference. While charged with leading approximately 70 churches, Rev. Jones convenes a Charge Conference in Bryant FUMC each year to set goals for the church and evaluate the success of our ministries. During the year, he provides supervisory leadership to our pastors and acts as liaison between the Bishop and FUMC.
