Serve

Help us serve our neighbors

As disciples of Jesus Christ, we learn to serve and lend ourselves to be the hands and feet of Christ operating in the world. Volunteers, servants of Christ, are always needed to help feed, serve and reach out to our neighbors experiencing various needs. Throughout the year, there are ample opportunities to jump in and make a difference!

Blessing Box

Thanks to an Eagle Scout project, our church parking lot is home to a large Blessing Box where all kinds of food and household items are left for individuals in need at any time of day. Throughout the week, church and community members drive in and drop off or pick up items to feed and assist others. We are thankful for volunteers who make special grocery store trips to fill our storage shelves and the shelves of the Blessing Box when demand is high. We also regularly need volunteers to organize our storage room and maintain supply lists.

United Methodist Men
We are so proud to have an active United Methodist Men group ready to aid the church and our neighbors with special projects. Samples of such projects include assisting the Cub Scout Pack with the construction of their pinewood cars for the annual pinewood derby, repairing our playground equipment and structures, painting rooms and helping with the set up of major events hosted by the church! UMM meet one Monday evening a month and enjoy a fellowship dinner and project planning.

United Women of Faith (aka United Methodist Women)
Our United Women of Faith (formerly known as United Methodist Women) gather each month for Christian spiritual formation, leadership development, creative fellowship and education. Their goal is to inspire others and seek to make an impact on local and global communities. These women are passionate about Jesus Christ and offer their leadership through serving persons inside and outside the church.

Alexander Outreach Center
Join a team preparing & serving meals once a month at this neighborhood outreach center. Children and families served by AOC also receive back-to-school supplies, backpacks and new shoes in August from donations through FUMC. The primary recipients of our annual FUMC Bryant “Angel Tree” at Christmas are children who are served by AOC.

Habitat for Humanity – Apostles’ Build
Every year our church joins with other Saline County churches to build one home for a family in our community through Habitat for Humanity. If you like to use your hands, work a saw, wire, and plumb or otherwise add to general labor around a worksite, this mission opportunity is for you!

CJCOHN- Churches Joint Council on Human Need
Twice a month our volunteers serve at distribution days at CJCOHN. We hand out food boxes and home goods to families in need of food assistance. We also participate in the generation and distribution of Christmas food baskets. Distribution days could always use more volunteers!

Our House
Various small groups at FUMC take turns preparing meals on the last Sunday of every other month for Our House. Our House is a transitional housing facility for families who are experiencing homelessness or near-homelessness. It is our joy to share a delicious meal with Our House families.

Ozark Mission Project
Our primary mission experience for our Youth (6th-12th grade) is the summer work trip through Ozark Mission Project. Students and leaders travel to various destinations in Arkansas to conduct work projects at the homes of people in need of special assistance. Most projects include the construction of wheelchair ramps and accessibility features for persons with limited mobility.

The CALL of Saline/Perry Counties
We routinely seek to gather goods and gift cards to support area foster families through The CALL. There are additional opportunities to support foster families within the church and help meet needs of children and foster parents. There are more children in need of foster homes, and we hope to encourage more families to choose fostering in the future.

Scouting Ministries
Join in the fun with our Troops and Cub Scout Pack with BSA. Our church is happy to host and share in community service with young people who are learning through the Scouting program character traits and life skills that help them develop as conscientious contributors and citizens.
